Meet Our Team

Founders - Genie and Lindsay Goldring

Genie & Lindsay Goldring

Genie and Lindsay Goldring were not comfortable with the trends they saw — too many animals in shelters or on the streets. They couldn’t wrap their heads around the challenges shelters faced and realized shelters could only do so much. Shouldn’t the solution for animals begin with people? In 2015 they founded The Inner Pup (TIP) with a plan for on-the-streets outreach and humane education in neighborhoods with little or no access to pet resources. These areas have a high number of animal control visits, dog fighting, abuse, and animal surrender is common. The flagship programs, Heartworm & Flea Prevention Clinics and Humane Education, are thriving and changing the community from the inside out, person to person, one pet at a time.

“You have no idea how spending a day with you guys, helping so many pets in need, lifts my spirit, my mind, and my soul. It helps me come full circle. It recharges me.”

“…a sincere thank you! You all are so passionate with everything you do and have the best team ever! …” Stacey & Jim

“I am giving because you were the ONLY ONES who helped me when I was homeless and penniless. You never passed judgement on participants.”
Gwen, client

The mission of The Inner Pup is to prevent suffering and save the lives of companion animals by eradicating heartworm disease, providing low-cost veterinary services, and teaching responsible pet ownership.

The Golden Rule – We treat all living creatures as we want to be treated - kindness, respect, thoughtfulness.

Honesty & Integrity – We are transparent, even when times are difficult, in our endeavors to support our clients.

Leadership – We pride ourselves in being informed, remain mission-focused, and carefully select our partners.

Diversity – We welcome diversity, and we value different ideas, strengths, interests, and backgrounds (even cat people!)

Perseverance - When we cannot offer direct help, we help clients search for other resources.

Mari Nerbovig

Mari graduated Summa Cum Laude from Loyola University of New Orleans Honors College with a degree in Music Therapy and Psychology and a minor in Spanish. Mari has worked in forensic psychiatric settings providing music therapy services, worked with a multitude of social service agencies, and most recently built a new Pets for Life Program for Fairfax, VA.

Most importantly, Mari is the loving foster parent of 100+ animals who have found furever homes. We are incredibly fortunate that Mari is back in NOLA working full time for TIP!

Gene Goldring

Sydney deVictoria-Michel

Sydney got involved with animal welfare soon after moving to New Orleans in November 2022.  She and her partner have fostered over 40 dogs of all sizes, medical issues, and behavior concerns.  Her background in school counseling is a plus in her Community Engagement role where she helps people address systemic concerns and finds available resources for pets to live happy and healthy lives with their chosen people.

Sean McZeal

Sean is a native New Orleanian. His parents’ rule of no pets didn’t stop him from befriending every pet he encountered, whether a friend’s pet or a random animal on the street. Sean’s background makes him a perfect fit for Community Ambassador where he meets lots of new people and pets!

Roni Murphy

Our incredible volunteers, teachers, and veterinarians

Ya’ll are the best. I can’t imagine what so many pet owners would do without TIP. You are really making things so much better for the community.
